The Beginning

Hello everyone! This is the second post of the book Beautiful Creatures. Today, I’m going to talk about the first chapters of the book.

The story begins in an old town in the middle of nowhere in Gatlin, South Carolina, where our main character, named Ethan Wate, has constant dreams about a strange girl with black and long hair. And a song that he had never heard in his life, and no one else seems to hear it too.

Suddenly, on the first day of school, a new girl arrives to town. She seems to be the niece of old Mr. Ravenwood, a men that everybody seems to fear in town. Her name is Lena Duchannes, and just like her uncle, nobody wants her in town.

Ethan tries to talk with her, because she strangely looks like the girl of his dreams. So they start talking, and one day, when the other girls of their class makes fun of Lena, she runs out of school, and Ethan goes after her. Finally he finds her in her backyard, so they start talking. They found and old locket, with the date of Lena’s birthday and Ethan’s initials, and suddenly they both had a really vivid vision.

Until now, I have really loved the book and I think it’s a very romantic, dark and mysterious story, that keeps you at the edge of emotion the whole time, with that special feeling of wanting to keep reading, I mean, its totally addictive.

I think that my favorite character is Lena, because she is a very strong girl, and she is not like any other girls, that only thinks about makeup, parties, and cheerleading, so I think that makes her more unique and special, plus the fact, that she has to accept that her family is unusual.

Sincerely, I think that we all know that feeling of being the new girl, and that confusing process of trying to fit in, or well, at least I know that feeling. And believe me, its definitely not easy.

Finally, I would like to share with you my favorite phrase of the book, until now. I totally loved it.

“It wasn’t that she was different from all the other girls at Jackson. That was obvious. It was that she made me realize how much I was just like the rest of them, even if I wanted to pretend I wasn’t.”

New Words:

·      Antebellum- It’s the period before a war, but most people associate it with the American Civil War.

-My grandma's house has a unique style of the antebellum. Every time I walk in, I feel like I’m inside a time machine.

·      Ducked- To evade or avoid something.

-Whatever it takes, I have to duck the head master.

·      Cameo- It’s a type of medallion with a raised relief profile.

-My mom gave me a Cameo for my birthday, she told me it was from her grandmother, so I have to take care of it.

Thanks for reading!!
